Deuteronomy 23:21-23

“When you make a vow to the Lord your God, you shall not delay to pay it; for the Lord your God will surely require it of you, and it would be sin to you. But if you abstain from vowing, it shall not be sin to you. That which has gone from your lips you shall keep and perform, for you voluntarily vowed to the Lord your God what you have promised with your mouth.

Have you ever promised God you will do something that you never did? Maybe the vow or promise was made out of desperation; you needed a breakthrough or a miracle or you felt convicted of something and was desperate to get rid of any guilt. The bible tells us to be careful to keep the vows we make to the Lord because He will require of it. It is better not to vow or promise than to make that vow or promise then break it.  If we can expect God to keep His promises, why should we not be expected to keep ours? Remember there is no wisdom in empty words, broken promises yield no fruit.
