I Had To Break It

I Had To Break It.

Isaiah 43:18-19 Don’t revel only in the past, or spend all your time recounting the victories of days gone by. Watch closely: I am preparing something new; it’s happening now, even as I speak, and you’re about to see it. I am preparing a way through the desert; Waters will flow where there had been none.

Many years ago while working at drug store, my then boss sold me a mug for 50 cents. It was a huge mug and being a lover of hot tea, it was perfect for me. 17 years and 5 states later the Lord started drawing my attention to it. I bought this mug in Alabama and somehow through my travels I ended up in Alabama with the mug. I’ll be honest, I was attached to my mug, and while I had many cups and mugs at home, this was the only one I used. So here I was, back in Alabama where it all began when Father started dealing with my attachment.

My birthday was coming up and I felt to buy myself a new mug. I didn’t find something I like so I kept my brown speckled mug until I saw a vision of myself breaking the mug. You see it wasn’t just about the mug but the past also. God wanted me to let go of something from my past that I had held on to unknowingly– yes, the mug included. The mug represented an unhealthy attachment to comfort zones, places and things God was calling me out of.

Just like me, Israel had a very unhealthy attachment to a past that was best left in the past. Egypt in the beginning represented a place of refuge as drought had plagued the land. Joseph having been chosen ahead of time had been sold as a slave but was later through God intricate plan as was promoted to second in command in Egypt. After Joseph died, Israel came to know the meaning of oppression and abuse at the hands of a new Pharaoh who was jealous and terrified at their growth. Being part of Gods chosen makes you attractive to heavens best, unfortunately, it attracts the enemy also. Israel though at one point a minority tribe in Egypt had grown in number and wealth. (READ EXODUS 3-13)

God heard their cry and sent Moses to deliver them from the clutches of Pharaoh and the Egyptians. However, Israel had a tendency to complain and desire the fruit of Egypt when things didn’t pan out according to their liking. I had been blessed with better cups and mugs but I always gravitated to this speckled mug and when I drank from another cup…it just wasn’t the same. There was a comfort zone I kept going back to in my life and God was breaking it off of me and I needed to be in agreement so I could also let go. There are small things in our lives that can keep us from receiving the greater things He has in store for us.

Proverbs 4:25 Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you

I don’t know what your story is. I don’t know which boat God is asking you to step out of. I don’t know what/which Egypt God is calling you out of. I don’t know…but He does and He can show you and lead  you by the ‘way of the red sea’ or whichever path He chooses. What I can tell you is, hanging on to stuff can wear you down, it gets too heavy for you to journey with it to your next destination, it delays you from moving forward and it clutters your current destination. Certain things aren’t meant to come with us and not because they are bad, they are the last seasons possessions.

YES, my situation was not as dramatic as Israels desire to go back to slavery but if God was drawing my attention to it, then it needed to be handled. The mug represented my past and so what needed to be handled was something from my past. I dealt with what Papa brought to my attention and bought myself a new mug that had “I did it” written on it. What is interesting about the new mug is it’s the only mug I liked and my daughter found it for me so I took it as Gods way of telling me, what was standing in the way had been eliminated.

Dear Friends, what “mug” do you need to break? What needs changing? Are you willing to break it to move forward? His greater is so much better that the current things. Trust Him and break up with your comfort zone. It’s the only way to step out of the boat, and step into new territories and new seasons.

Love and blessings.

    1. Thank you sooo much Lynn!! Im blessed it blessed you. 😊 💕 I’ve been MIA again, I’ve got some catching up to do on your blog. Transition and lots of changes are upon me and I’m really cherishing the Jesus moments I have with Him. Sometimes all we need is to keep our eyes glued to Him, especially when we’re in a new territory. Can’t wait to read your posts….I’m already looking forward to gleaning from you. ❤️ Much love and blessings my friend 💝 💕
